March Against Monsanto – Springfield, MO

It was really awesome to be a part of the March Against Monsanto yesterday in Springfield, MO. I was surprised and delighted to see at least 250 – 300 people show up there to march in protest of GENETICALLY MODIFIED “foods”. Getting together with folks in support of a brighter future and to make a statement is a powerful and inspiring thing. Hopefully it rings a bell in the minds of other people who didn’t have a clue before.

Of course the ONLY true way to stop the spread of Monsanto and other GMO companies, is to STOP SUPPORTING THEM with your money! Almost everything available at most grocery stores contain GMO ingredients that are hidden behind names like high fructose corn syrup, natural flavors, citric acid, aspartame, soy lecithin, rennet in hard cheeses, etc etc… the list is LOOOONG. So how do you avoid that? KNOW YOUR FARMER!! If you know who is growing the food that you eat, you have the ability to find out what they are feeding their animals and how they raise their plants. Stop eating prepared foods and start preparing your own foods from WHOLE ingredients.

GROW YOUR OWN FOOD.
SHOP LOCAL
KNOW YOUR FARMER

This is the only way to truly defeat Monsanto and the other GMO Giants.

Christie Aphrodite is the voice and beautiful face behind Soul Journeys Radio. She is a fabulous friend of mine and a total activist on the local food and natural whole body healing front. In the video below she talks about the importance of standing up against Monsanto and GMO foods with your lifestyle every single day, instead of just ranting and raging that companies should label food. Yeah, it would be nice for these killer corporations to do something compassionate for the good of the people, but let’s be real here… that probably isn’t going to happen anytime soon! So stop waiting and start making educated choices about your food!!

Natural Pregnancy . Creating life is natural and beautiful!

Mother Earth Pregnant Goddess by PearlWhitecrow

Mother Earth Pregnant Goddess by PearlWhitecrow

Pregnancy has been an incredible journey and it is totally enlightening, I’m learning so much about myself!! It’s an exciting new experience growing a real life human in my uterus right now! The other day when I was walking, I subconsciously placed my hand on lower belly and could feel a life spiraling around me. This is a different kind of life than little gassy indigestion amoebas.. it’s very spiritual and holy.

Birth is an absolutely holy thing for every woman. It is holy for a walnut to fall from a tree and years later there appears another walnut tree bearing so many fruits. Birth is magical! Birth is beautiful! Birth can be a spiritual awakening that connects a woman and her partner to god, the creation, light, source, the entire universe. Birth is NATURAL… It is nature. Human nature, animal nature, plant nature, and amoeba nature. Every life in this universe was born from something. To be more specific, female humans have been giving birth for a heck of a long time (as long as there have been humans) and we’ve been doing it without fail until now… and we are still doing it!

For some reason, doctors seem to truly FEAR BIRTH. It totally disgusts me to hear stories from pregnant friends about their experiences with doctors. Of course all doctors are different, and all midwives are different too, but for the most part the stories I hear from folks are just horrendous!

One friend of mine was pregnant with her first son and during her pregnancy went through many many ultrasounds. She got a C-section for that baby. That child started speaking late in his life and is still overcoming a speech impediment and is now 7 years old. A couple of years later when she was pregnant with her second child, she did not want to have a C-section. The only reason that doctor had for wanting to give her a C-section is that she had one before. She refused so the doctor dropped her, and so did the next 5 doctors! She finally found a doctor that would deliver her baby naturally and she had a perfectly healthy little boy! Why did these doctors refuse to deliver her naturally? Fear of some sort of liability.

I have two friends who are pregnant with twins right now and getting ultrasounds every two weeks. Their doctors also refuse natural birth and will only do a C-section to deliver twins. Yes, it is more of a hazard to deliver two or more babies because of the chances of them being at difficult angles, bleeding, tearing, etc. But it can be done and has been done many times! If a woman believes in herself and finds a spiritual midwife who is fully 100% present and aware of the moment, the birth will be a beautiful thing no matter what happens.

For my own pregnancy, I have no intention of going to a doctor or hospital at all and I am totally comfortable in that choice. I do not fear doctors but I find them totally unnecessary and unable to help me during this time. My partner Carlos has been the most amazing help for me throughout this time and I’m so thankful to have a fantastic and honest relationship with my life partner! We have a seriously tantric connection a lot of the time where he just knows what I need in that moment. He is the sweetest, most understanding, and very wise spirit. I’m blessed. We are all blessed and we all deserve the most amazing experience!!

I have been reading a book called Spiritual Midwifery written by Ina May that fills my heart with a beautiful realization that I CAN DO IT! Ina May is this amazing midwife who has been doing it for years and years and years, since the 60s. She shares stories from hundreds of women about their birth and all of them have this psychadelic experience during their pregnancy. Sometimes they are afraid or nervous, but their midwife helps bring them to a state of mind where they just are present with the miracle of life that is happening in their body! It is truly a magical thing. If you are pregnant, I highly suggest reading Spiritual Midwifery!

I have not yet found a midwife, but I know it will all happen naturally and beautifully. I have no doubt, no fear.

Things to think about…

Are ultrasounds causing the huge rise in autism?

Research on ultrasounds

Have you delivered a baby naturally or are you going through a natural pregnancy? I would love to hear your stories!

SWMO Free School

Image

Have you heard of a free school or free sKool? While I was traveling up the Pacific coast in 2011 with my hunky love Carlos, we visited several towns that offered free classes of all sorts. In Santa Cruz, CA there was bread baking and how to make goat cheese. In Olympia, WA we found sign language class and free jazz. In San Francisco there’s a circus school! If anything in this world should be free, food and information above all else! We all deserve to survive and THRIVE happily and magnificently.

Fast forward to the present – we’re living in southwest Missouri, Branson to be specific. The daffodils are in bloom, our lettuce and carrots are sprouting in the garden, Spring is on it’s way… Get ready for the Southwest Missouri FREE SKOOL, starting April 1st at Vintage Paris in Hollister! If you live in the area, please stop by Vintage Paris to grab a calender and check out some classes!

It was so easy to make this happen. I recognize the beautiful gifts in the people I meet around me, so I asked some folks if they’d be into teaching a class. All classes are free to anyone interested in learning and sharing. Vintage Paris is a fantastic local coffee shop owned by our friends Jessica and Matt. They are all about gathering the community and creating a beautiful area where we all know and help one another! It’s a beautiful thing.

Anyone can start a free school! You could ask your local library if they have a community space to offer classes. Many local business owners are interested in offering community activities that will create local bonds. It’s a great way to stimulate local business too! We are so thrilled to get this started!!

We are kicking things off on April 1st with a SEED EXCHANGE from 5 – 7pm. Every Tuesday of the month from 1-3pm come in for Herbalism 101 with Lisa Lee. She is a certified herbalist and will be teaching the basics of making herbal remedies! On Wednesdays we have hooping class with Sean Rae Von from 4-5pm. On Thursdays we have Winder Lyons teaching Kundalini Yoga – Union with God and Saturdays I will be hosting a Crochet Group from 3-5pm.

Are there any free schools in your area? Do you attend or teach any free classes?

Do you trade / barter?

Money is not necessary for a person to live a healthy, happy life. How do I know this? I’ve lived a life where I traveled from place to place never spending a dime on transportation or food. I worked for everything I got, don’t get me wrong. We mutually helped eachother with something we needed in every situation and all my thoughts became reality. This is still true. I live in different times now where money is necessary in certain instances, but I create that reality.

Truly, all we need is a tool to achieve what we are looking for. Money is a tool, a means to get something that we want or need. It is also a tool that very powerful people use to enslave the masses into submission… but that’s a whole other story. Today I ask you – what do you have to offer? What can you give someone in exchange for what you need? And what is it that you need to survive?

Image

I recently made a trade with Annie from MontanaSolarCreations. In exchange for the headband above, she is giving me 2 handmade cloth diapers for our future baby!

Adorable diaper!!

On many occasions I have traveled to farms that need seasonal help with this and that. Carlos and I spent one week on a farm a few hours from here. We helped them build a new pig pen for their baby piglets, we did lots of canning, harvested veggies, and slaughtered many animals while there. In exchange for our help, we were sent home with 200 pounds of meat, easily. Pork, rabbit, duck, and chicken.

My mom has traded hand-knit scarves in exchange for deer meat from local hunters. I also know some people who trade their work as a groundskeeper in exchange for their work on the house they’re living in. Basically, a person can truly get everything they need through trades and just being open to what it is you want out of life. Law of attraction. You get what you give.

Have you ever traded for something?

Even a stone, and more easily a flower or a bird, could show you the way back to God, to the Source, to yourself. When you look at it or hold it & let it be without imposing a word of mental label on it, a sense of awe, of wonder, arises within you. Its essence silently communicates itself to you and reflects your own essence back to you.

A quote by Eckhart Tolle, borrowed from his book “A New Earth”

a warm winter day …

Today was an absolutely beautiful day in the Ozarks and inspired me to get a jump on spring! The day whispered “early spring planting” in my ear as the breeze blew past and the sun shined on my face.

Food Waste!!! Dumpster dive…

Around 35 MILLION TONS of food waste was generated in the US in 2010, and 97% ended up in landfills or incinerators. This is a statistic taken from the EPA. A whole LOT of that food could have ended up in the mouths of hungry people.

When I moved from Texas to California about 4 years ago, I found a really awesome girl to stay with through a website called couchsurfing.com. If you’re a traveler and have not heard of couchsurfing, look into it! She exposed me to dumpster diving for the first time and took me to Trader Joes in Santa Fe, New Mexico. I couldn’t believe the AMAZING FOOD they just throw away like garbage!! They throw away a dozen eggs if one is cracked! WHAT?! We must have gotten 12 dozen eggs! There were cheeses, sprouted grain bread, papayas (better with age), peppers……

Image

washing up veggies

Now I live in Branson, Missouri where there are only a few grocery stores and they all have trash compactors. I still find a way to get free produce though! Once or twice a month we (Carlos and I) drive our butts up to Springfield to shop at the farmers market. We also stop by a health food grocer to purchase the items that we couldn’t get at the farmers market, and we pick up their “compost” for our community garden! They take their aging produce and donate it to local farms to be turned into compost, but much of it is still perfectly edible! So I take it home, wash the good stuff, then take all the rest to the garden.

Image

headed for the compost pile

There have been times when I have gone dumpster diving and brought home a BUSHEL of organic apples! We made apple juice, apple sauce, baked apples, and added them to salads. We once picked up compost and brought home 10 mangos, 8 bunches of asparagus, and 40 oranges! Other times we only get a little edible goodness.. but it’s totally worth it! To divert healthy, organic food waste from landfills is incredibly rewarding!

Image

cabbage, celery, sweet potatoes, apple, orange, banana

How YOU can get FREE FOOD!

  • check local dumpsters
  • talk to store managers to see if they would be interested in starting a composting, or better yet a FOOD BANK program
  • talk to local farms at the end of the market to see if they offer donations

Many stores are scared of liability issues due to donating food waste, but there are some stores that have already started doing it and they are blazing the trail for more! The “good samaritan law” should protect grocery stores from any liability after they have donated the food. To see whether a vegetable is actually bad or not is just common sense.

There is a really cool movie about dumpster diving on netflix that I highly recommend! It’s called DIVE!

You are the best!!

The Celebration Headband

The Celebration Headband

Happy New Year everyone!!! Today is a fabulous day! I feel great, empowered, happy, and I feel certain that this year will be full of amazing successes! You are all beautiful and amazing people and you are the BEST at being YOU!

This will be a year of mobilization for me. To mobilize is to set forth into action and get things done.. I’m going to get shit done every day this year!! First and foremost, I feel like THE most important thing to do is take care of myself. When I’m healthy and happy, then I’m way more capable of taking care of other people, my business, and I just feel awesome! So let’s all make it a goal to take really good care of ourselves!

I have made lots of really huge goals for the year that I will work on throughout time. They are goals, not resolutions because to me resolutions seem a little too resolute. (unchanging) The world is always changing, growing, evolving.. and so do my ambitions and desires, so they are goals. But instead of just having these super huge, daunting goals… I also started making a list of THREE things to get done every day! In the morning when I wake up, I meditate on the three things I feel are most important to finish during the day. Three tasks are totally achievable and I’ve been doing a great job with it! You can do it too! It’s a fantastic way to feel good about yourself!

Don’t say NO, say YES!!

Instead of saying “stop eating sugar” or “no more caffeine”, try to INVITE good habits into your life! Whenever I tell myself to STOP doing this or that, it’s an invitation to failure, because I will always end up caving in and eating those cookies and ice cream.. and then I feel like I did something wrong! Instead of doing all that, I say “I will eat greens every day!” and I do it because it makes me feel super good and I just love the taste! That way even if I do indulge in a sugary snack, the bulk of my diet has been good, nourishing, wholesome foods. So I have less craving for the sugars and I feel great! Don’t beat yourself up! Give yourself a pep talk because YOU ARE WONDERFUL! You are the only you there is and you are darn good at being you! You are beautiful, powerful, and amazing! Go forth and share your gifts with the world!!!

Side note // I was featured in an awesome blog that I love this morning called blart! There is a really great interview about my small business with lots of cool photos of my stuff! Check it out if you love me!! 🙂 http://www.blartblog.com
